"For most of us the problem isn't that we aim too high and fail- it's just the opposite- we aim too low and succeed."

Interesting New Things

I have started doing some very interesting new things in my book arts portfolio, here is just a small selection to whet your appetite:

I'm very interested in what is happening between the thick blue lines and the black text. I have been doing these of people on the T on my commute to and from work in Boston. So far no one who has noticed me has gotten angry or even commented. Some are also of my students as they work in our drawing studio. I hope to continue these as an exercise daily.

Recent Work

These images are of the commissioned work I did for Mass College of Art and Designs eleventh president, Dawn Oxenaar Barrett, for her inauguration in 2012

This altered book was formatted and printed, the cover and pages were hand-bound, then the book was altered into its present incarnation. It is currently in President Barrett's collection, and has been shown at MassArt as well as advertising for President Barrett's inauguration.

Wow.

It has been over a year since I have added to this blog, but no matter! We'll keep the past behind us, to paraphrase Timon.

I have a new website for my recent and not so recent works of art. Please check it out and give me some honest feedback on how I can make it a more accessible and successful site.
<www.skhampton.virb.com>

Someday I may own my own domain, but until then, hopefully this will be a useful alternative.

I have been busy this past year working in the public school system as a substitute and getting use to being out of college. I don't like it and am planning on going back for grad school ASAP. I will be finishing applications this upcoming fall for the fall of 2014, please wish me luck!

I have also been working on some new artwork, some that will find its way to the new website in the next few days, and some that are still in the process of being completed.

I have continued teaching in youth programs this summer (nearing the middle of the longer and more intense program this next week). So I should have some interesting additions, both text and images, to add in the next few weeks.

I promised in the last entry that I was going to try and write here more often. I'm not going to make that promise again, it only fills me with guilt when my intentions fall through because of life going on outside of the internet world. I will post here when I can, and I hope that works for those of you interested in continuing to follow my progress!

Thank you for sticking with me!
Susan

I hate that its been so long since I posted on this blog. I have been pretty busy these last couple of months, but I think its getting to that time of the year where I can start taking the time and energy and put it back in this blog, at least some of it anyways. I will be posting art work from this last semester at MassArt in the next few days, as I take the professional images of it. I have also changed my header on this blog to a new image of myself at the Chapter IV festival of narratives closing reception at the Gallery at the Piano Factory. It was an amazing show and I was very honored be to able to take part in it. The closing reception was amazing. The work on the wall and pedestals were breathtaking and the performances in the last hour of the show were incredible. It was a wonderful night I'm so glad I didn't miss.
I have been blessed this last semester to be able to take part in so many shows, all at once no less. I have been an artist in shows and curated a show, will be curating another soon! It has been a busy few months!
